Like I said, Anastasia's mommy is not big on veining. So, we're going to let the blue shading layer accomplish for us what the veining would have done: creating the illusion of blood flowing under the skin. It's nice to have options. LOL She's looking very lovely so far! I'll be getting pictures of the real baby in the mail soon so we can start painting her complexion! Wondering what blue shading is all about? Check out the tutorial!

She's really starting to look great. I'm so excited! While you might be worried about how much Halloween candy you need to buy, my head is 100% in Christmas. I'm already busy making sure that babies who need to be on Santa's Sleigh Christmas Eve will get there on time. Well, I guess I'm not the only one managing my Holiday deadlines... I'm exited to begin baby Anastasia Delane! Baby Anastasia is a portrait doll based on a picture of a real baby. We will be creating her from Chanel by Donna RuBert. I'm working on Anastasia concurrently with Alissa Beth, so she's already had her bath, base coat, mottling and veining. Mom's not big on veining, so I painted them extra light. ;) More to come! I'm excited to begin little Scarlet! Scarlet was commissioned by a loving Aunt who wants her niece to have a doll that looks just like her! I'm especially excited about this doll because she will be the first doll I create from the Apply Valley Doll Works 18" Girlfriends line. At last, an American Girl Truly Me sized doll that really looks like your child! First, we did some experimentation in polymer clay to see if I could achieve even greater likeness. Once I felt good about the clay part, I started prepping the doll kit. She was a little pink for Scarlet's complexion, so I neutralized the vinyl a bit. Now we're ready to bring her to life!
Before adding the Base Coat, Holly needed to be neutralized. Using blue and flesh colored paint, I was able to take the orange out of her complexion. Now she's ready for painting! Check out the Demo to lean how to neutralize your vinyl reborn doll kit. Mottling is one of my favorite reborning steps. This is where the doll really starts to look like a real baby. Check out Alissa Beth's mottling! Well, I was having such a vlogging-good time that I ended up with way too much footage to fit in a single video. So I made two! Check out Alissa Beth's base coating fun at: How to Paint the Base Coat! I'm excited to introduce you to another one of my Christmas Babies! This is Holly, based on Arianna by Reva Schick. Holly is the biggest baby ever to enter my workshop. Its going to be a lot of fun bringing her to life. I'm especially privileged to work on this doll because she is the treasured possession of her mommy, who is an incredible artist herself. I'll be showcasing some of her work on my site soon, so stay tuned! My first Artist Mommy - I'd better do a really good job! :) Here are Holly's Before Photos! Before I paint, I've got to be sure that the vinyl is free of dust, dirt, oil and debris as this can interfere with the painting. Check out Alissa Beth's bubble bath and alcohol rub down to get her squeaky clean for reborning! Colyn has curly hair. To make it easier to root, I flat iron it straight. Sometimes I iron the length of the hair, sometimes only the part that I'm rooting. So he's got an interesting mix of textures going on. Still, looking goo so far!
At last, little Colyn is getting some hair. We've got a long way to go, but we're off to a good start! We're rooting his hair just like his sister Cadyn. I'm very excited to embark upon the journey of turning this Realborn (TM) Asher Awake doll kit into a lifelike, reborn Alissa Beth portrait baby doll. Best of all, I'm not just blogging, I'm vlogging through the Reborn with Me! series. We're going to have a lot of fun! Here are Alissa's Before Photos and the tutorial of everything I did before we started taking pictures. Enjoy! Before PhotosReborn With Me! Part 1Little Bobby has a story that he asked me to share. He knows you're going to love it, because its true. Once Upon a Time...a Doll Artist started making a surprise portrait doll of her nephew. A few things in the painting did not quite go right. Before he knew it, the little baby was lost in inventory - not knowing when he would ever be finished. Then one day, a beautiful lady saw his picture and it was love at first sight! The Artist was hesitant to sell her nephew, at first. But at the same time, like the baby, she didn't know when he would get finished. "He'd be so much happier in a home where he's being loved," she thought, "than sitting unfinished in my workshop." So she gave him a "boo boo" price and a deal was made. He was rescued from inventory! This little baby was finally going home! Where a partially rooted section of hair once was, he got beautifully painted hair. His sweet eyes turned from brown to blue. He even got a new name too! This almost forgotten baby was finally born! Realizing that she was going to miss this little guy, the Artist put extra love into sending him off. He was dressed with love and packed with care. After a few days in transit, he was finally there. He was finally HOME. And he and his new Mommy lived happily ever after. The EndSee the rest of Bobby's photo shoot on his new page!
I must admit I'm feeling a little emotional. The boo boo doll I never finished today has finally been born! I'm pleased to announce: Robert "Bobby" Hugo Price was born October 7, 2015 at 1:15pm 20" long, 72.2 oz Before packing him up, I'm going to take a few pictures. Once he's gone, the photos will be all that I have left of him.
Bobby is very happy and excited to finally go home! After many hours of rooting Zoey's Masterpiece Collection micro-rooted hair, I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. One more section to go! I'm very pleased to present Baby Promise. She is a beautiful new member of my Collector's Dolls family. She has traditional doll hair rooting with a gorgeously microrooted hairline for the perfect, natural baby look. Her hair is thick and curly, boasting over an ounce of mohair on her tiny frame. She's looking forward to going home soon! Bobby's in his final preparations to go home. Today is Glues and Goos. For gorgeous lifelikeness, I added some very fine blonde eyelashes. I also set and glued his beautiful Stormy Blue eyes, glued the magnet for his paci and sealed the eye sockets with glaze for perfect newborn teary eyes. He looks a little like a space alien with the wet glaze in his eyes. But don't worry, it will clear up in a few days. :) To give Bobby the perfect lifelike baby-powder matte skin texture, I spent some time sealing the painting. He's going to be so sweet! |
