I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to create Reborn Hades in loving memory of Hades Timothy-Patrick Finnearty, who passed away on Friday, September 4, 2015. He was due on Monday, May 9, 2016 and finally arrived three months later as a big three-month old reborn baby doll on Monday, August 1, 2016.

Since Hades is such a large baby with so much hair, I have had to invest in some professional equipment. A beauticians manikin stand is great to have when trimming reborn hair. It's adjustable, easy to install and makes it much easier to reach your work. I've always wanted to make a fantasy reborn. Before we cut his hair, Hades is looking pretty fantastic!
Loving Hades' skin texturing and rooted reborn eyebrows. He has human hair, but the eyebrows are mohair and the lashes are a strip. Just gorgeous!
A gorgeous reborn manicure deserves a little shine! A gloss varnish is a great way to highlight the nails and create the appearance of moisture on the lips, nostrils and eyelids. I'll gloss his lips after I'm done rooting.
Hades is being created from Easton, by Michelle Fagan. well, with the painting part anyway. :) Once we add his skin texturing and sealant, this little guy will be ready for rooting!
Before adding my blushing layers, I took the time to paint each and every little crease and wrinkle on Hades. Creasing creates the illusion of depth and makes the doll look less like vinyl and more like skin. It takes hours to get every little crease. So time-consuming, but so worth it! You can real see the difference in the Before and After photos below - one creased limb next to one without creases painted:
To further create the look of blood flowing under baby's skin, I like to paint veins on the head, hands and feet. I also go back and shade key areas in my vein blue color so the doll has the look of a baby's thin skin.
Several layers of mottling creates the appearance of blood flowing under the skin. Hades is being created from Easton, by Michelle Fagan.
Before...After...Because the Sweet Pea belly plate was discontinued, we had to match Hades to a Teagan belly plate, which comes from a different manufacturer and is not made of the same color vinyl as the rest of the doll kit. So it took several days of painting to make these parts look like they go together.
But by making the belly plate lighter and the rest of the kit more peachy, we're finally ready to start reborning! Hades is being created from Easton, by Michelle Fagan. Hades is a Lifelike Portrait Memorial Baby doll based on Easton by Michelle Fagan. He is 23" long and wears 6 month sized real baby clothes. I'm looking forward to bringing this little (big) guy to life! |
