Veining is the process of painting subtle blue veins on the doll to add a super-realistic appearance to the skin. Combined with mottling, veins make the baby look like she has blood flowing under her skin. It has taken me years of practice to perfect the veining step because blue paint is highly pigmented and staining. These Pro Tips will help you get the perfect subtle veining look your baby deserves:

Wonderful tidbits, bless your heart for sharing insights. I'm a newbie at the art, still working with my first art doll. I'm not in the hobby for sell just to learn the craft for now is good. So my little one may take forever to get finish, lol, but she's coming along :). My first few attempts I believe I watered the paint down way too much. Then I shift from doing line veining to sponge veining, but I will be going back and forth to see which I like and which I prefer on what dolls. I do like them both but definitely more practice is in store :).

AuthorHi! I am Kim. I've been creating dolls all my life. I started stuffing cotton balls into my mom's pantyhose when I was a little girl. Now I hand-craft dolls that look and feel like real babies. Archives
