I've been getting a lot of questions about Dewy Skin, so I decided to try it out!
Dewy Skin medium, by Precious Little Baby Dust, is a heat-set medium that can be used to seal the paint, create lifelike skin texture and sheen for glowing baby skin. Through my tests, I found that it works fine for all of these purposes. Few notes: - Add time (not heat) for a proper cure. 15 minutes at 250 F works well for me. - Bake while wet for sheen. Let it dry then bake for matte. - I forgot to cure a piece and left it over night. It turned white like matte varnish would, but did bake clear. With the matte skin texturing all set and thoroughly cured, there is only one varnish left to add: the gloss!
This video will show you how to create beautiful lifelike skin texture on your reborn baby doll using Matte Varnish and Genesis Heat Set Colors. This is the story of how one trip to Michael's changed my life. At least it changed how to do skin texturing. LOL Thanks to this nifty contraption called a "Foam Stipler," I can now seal and texture my dolls' skin faster and more consistently. This lesson is a follow-up to Sealing and Texturing Baby Skin. What's new?
I must confess: I used to be pretty ambivalent about paint sealant and skin texturing. I once went to a doll show where almost every baby I handled felt a little like fine grit sandpaper. I appreciated the need to seal, but I was not feeling the texture. A few months later, I finally found a solution! |

AuthorHi! I am Kim. I've been creating dolls all my life. I started stuffing cotton balls into my mom's pantyhose when I was a little girl. Now I hand-craft dolls that look and feel like real babies. Archives
