I suffer from migraines and on days when I'm not feeling well, I don't want to risk working on any of my custom dolls. So I decided to spend what little energy I had getting organized. Thanks to these fancy new "shoe boxes" I purchased and my massive new peg board, I have the peace of a place for everything and everything in it's place. Every baby has a box full of his/her supplies. Every part has a spot to dry. It is such a relief knowing I'm not going to lose anything. Sweet, sweet organization!

Today Helaina and Joshua got their first few coats of paint. The Real Effect vinyl is always a little too orange for me, so we started with a Neutralization Layer. Then the Base Coat. I've complained in the past that Flesh 08 is too pale for my purposes. So today I created a custom complexion adding Genesis Red and Raw Sienna to the Flesh 08 to get a more peachy color. This is going to look so nice on the complexion layers! I also started the mottling. Wheew! My arms are tired from all that painting! LOL Kit Preparation is the process of washing the vinyl parts in dish detergent and alcohol to remove any dirt, grease or other debris that could hinder the painting process. Doesn't mean we still can't have a little fun while we're at it!

Joshua is a Lifelike Portrait Baby Doll created in the loving memory of a real baby who is no longer with us. Based on Lillesol by Sabine Altenkirch, Josh is a limited edition of only 600. He is 20" long and will wear newborn sized real baby clothes. He's going to look so much like his namesake! Before Alissa Beth was even done, her mommy had found her sister. I'm pleased to introduce Helaina - who will be created from Judith by Andrie Stoete. Helaina is a big girl at 21" long. She will wear 3M sized real baby clothes. And will be the fourth baby added to the Masterpiece Doll Collection at CustomDollBaby.com. Very excited to bring this little one to life! Hades is a Lifelike Portrait Memorial Baby doll based on Easton by Michelle Fagan. He is 23" long and wears 6 month sized real baby clothes. I'm looking forward to bringing this little (big) guy to life! I have a tradition at CustomDollBaby.com called Meet the Babies. I like to familiarize myself with the nuances and personality of the doll kit before I start painting. This is also when I take Before Photos. Today we're meeting Jase. Jase is a Lifelike Portrait Memorial Doll based on Realborn Summer Rain. Such a beautiful little guy!
After a few days in the dehydrator, Scarlett was finally ready for her shampoo and conditioner. Such pretty hair when it air dries!
With the rooting done, its time for Alissa Beth's Glues and Goos - sealing the hair, sealing the eyes, gluing the magnet and gluing the eyelashes. Check it out! Sealing and Hair & Adding MagnetsGluing EyelashesResin for Perfect Baby TearsAt this point in the process Scarlet starts to look a lot like someone we know! I set her pretty dark blue eyes. Because Scarlet has very full eyelashes, created a double strip so her doll looks even more like her. I sealed her eyes with resin so they will be shiny and protected. I even stretched her cheeks a little to better get the shape of her face.
Once all that good stuff has cured, this little lady is ready to go home! How to Trim Big Girl Bangs Slide Show With Scarlet's painting all done we're ready to get rooting! She has very thick hair rooted with Collector's Traditional Doll hair plugs in Ruby Red Curve. I love how the bend in the mohair always frames her face!
Now that the baseline painting is done, I'm ready to add Scarlett's two front teeth so she'll look just like the real baby. Check out the sculpting footage: We finally rooted our way across the back of Alissa Beth's head. I like to think of this section - ear-to-ear as 50% of the way done. Now we're ready to work the hair that frames her face. Loving this pretty hair!
Alissa Beth has gorgeous blonde hair with auburn highlights. I love rooting blonde hair because of the way it glistens in the light like sunshine. I don't love rooting blonde hair because a single strand of blonde mohair up against a Caucasian scalp is impossible to see. Fortunately, I figured out a trick: indirect light! If I position my lamp just right, those blonde hairs start to glisten. Then I can see the hair's I've rooted so I don't keep sticking more hair in the same spot. Now we're cooking with gas! Check out more photos of Alissa Beth's Sunshine Hairdo: More than a year ago, I unboxed my first Realborn in the hoping of creating a doll for myself. Much to my disappointment, the paintbrushes I got in Evon Nather's hair painting class came with blue handles that left stains all over my doll. So I never finished. Yet here we are so many months later getting this little guy ready to go home with a "boo boo" discount! It all works out in the end. Check out his photos and videos on Presley's Page.
